Foundations in Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh and all Locations in Banbury and the Surrounding Areas

Groundworks is a site preparation service that requires careful planning and, if a project requires us to lay foundations, it is important that the calculations remain accurate so there are no extra costs incurred for extra concrete to fill the trenches. By making Sam Peet Groundworks your preferred contractors, every project undertaken by our team gets off to the best possible start.

Areas covered by our company include:

Banbury | Chipping Norton | Moreton-in-Marsh | Oxfordshire | Gloucestershire | The Cotswolds

Local authorities will insist that we work to an approved plan so, if a project is in need of trench fill foundations, strip foundations or RC concrete slabs, we work to a specification where scaling off the drawings ensures the build type is in the correct position and more likely to gain building control approval.

It is important that foundations do not impact on neighbouring properties or encroach boundaries and levels in the specified job criteria.

Foundation Types

Our groundworks contractors excel in all forms of site preparation and in the most common foundation types. We collaborate with customers and clients to ensure everything is set up perfectly before work begins, thus reducing the potential for errors and delays on the job. Solid foundations bear the weight load of new builds, extensions, garden rooms and hard surfacing installations.

The foundations we excel in include:

Trench Fill Foundations

A common choice on new and self-build projects, trench fill foundations do not require any formative brickwork. Because we pour concrete to depths of up to 150mm, this method saves considerable time and money on large-scale developments but is only suitable for use in stable soil conditions.

Ideal for land in Banbury, Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh and other areas with a chalk or clay soil type, trench fill foundations must have enough solidity to absorb load-bearing weights especially at the sides of the trench.

Strip Foundations

Although wider in design than trench fill foundations, strip foundations require less concrete and typically have thicknesses of around 300mm. The masonry courses to the DPC influence the thicknesses of the walls. On sloped ground, strip foundations have steps to ensure a level base which overlap and should be the same width as the trench after pouring concrete into the formwork.

Using shuttering techniques, our groundworks contractors will usually use strip foundations when the soil conditions are considered sandy or soft.

RC Concrete Slabs

A reinforce concrete (RC) slab is a foundation reinforced with steel, usually as bars, to increase the structural floor support. These foundations are common in modern construction and work especially well on properties with flat floors and ceilings. Layers of steel reinforcement, with reinforced concrete poured into the formwork, will create an evened and levelled base for building.

On some projects, it is possible to fabricate RC concrete slabs offsite. Note that for surfacing installations, we lay sub-bases instead of foundations.

When laying foundations in Banbury, Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh or a location in the local area, we consult with building control departments and warranty inspectors at regular intervals to gain all appropriate approvals and certifications. Having a stable base to build on is critical to any building project, and foundations are a core part of the overall groundworks process.

Sam Peet Groundworks can advise on foundations, create specifications and help you when making a submission to your local authority.
